155,000 miles
1995 BMW 740i

After Degreesing the engine with engine cleaner (foam) and a garden hose, the engine seems to be running very rough and a loss of power and pick up. I thought I had gotten something wet electrical wise, so I blew out all the contacts I could find with air, and this did not not help. Now the check engine light comes on and stays on. I am not sure how/where to check for codes.

the 20 pin diagnostic connector is in the engine compartment on the right side near the strut tower.
it is round and black and about 3.5" in diameter.
as far as how to check for faults you could find a local shop that has a GT-1 or it's equivalent and have them read out the faults.
