1992 BMW 735 Timing belt or chain??

To better assist you is your model a 735i or 735il?

I believe it is a 735

It is a chain and gear either way. As for advice maintenace is important. Regular oil changes and trans services and filter changes and change anti freeze every couple of years and this car should live a long life.

Hello - racefan966 is right on......it is a chain......and has provide excellent advice on taking care of it. You either have a 735i or il......I was asking to check to see if there was anything specific to that model. Just a couple of other things for you......... SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SERVICE An on-board computer determines service intervals based on the style and amount of driving. The operator is signaled by a series of LEDs showing the proximity of service needs. Five Green LEDs will progressively go out showing the approaching need of service. When the last Green light goes out an Amber light will illuminate indicating service is due immediately. A Red LED will illuminate if the maintenance interval has been exceeded. The maintenance services are performed in sequence: Engine Oil Service, Inspection I, Engine Oil Service, Inspection II. An Annual Service is to be performed with, or in addition to, all other services when due. OXYGEN SENSOR SERVICE Because deterioration of the oxygen sensor is based strictly on mileage, manufacturer recommends replacing oxygen sensor every 50,000 miles. Also, it looks like you may have some recalls on your vehicle. The dealer may fix these for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on these to see if they apply to you.

The M-30 motor has a timing chain and will require occasional valve adjustments and spark plug changes along with oil changes and the proper fuel.
