Hello, please help me. I have a 97 528 auto with 153K. I had a split coolant hose which i replaced this morning. The hose went from underneath the intake manifold around the back of wherever to the water pump. (it was the one on the right as you look on it from in front of the car) After much effort I managed to get it all done, then started the car to get heat to check for leaks. The yellow DSC warning light is on and wont go off. I have only had this car for a couple of months and although I have a workshop manual there isnt anything in there as to why this would have happened.

Can anyone help me please? Many hours of internet searching on a sunda when nowhere is open for me to call them have led me here.

Many Thanks, Maria

The DSC light is probably on due to a component either being left unplugged or an outright failure (somewhat unlikely) Try this first, open the trunk and disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. This is what BMW calls a master battery reset, sort of like restarting a computer or control/alt/delete. Reconnect the battery and drive the car and report back with your results, I will check in later today. And Maria, do not panic, all is well, the DSC will not keep you from driving the car.BTW, DSC means dynamic stability control.

Hello, thank you for your reply, I did what you said and no joy at all. We couldnt think of anything else that we could try so tomorrow I will be on the phone to BMW to get it booked in for diagnostics.

Thank you so much for your help, I really do appreciate it. Maria

got it back from the garage just now, it was the throttle valve operating cable which had broken. i guess it was on its way out b4 i changed the hose cos the light would flicker on and off every now and again, so thankfully it wasnt anything i had disturbed when i changed the water hose.

Many Thanks again for your help, hope this reply can help someone else

So it there some kind of step-by-step procedure for diagnosing the problem or just random check of all sensors, wires, modules, etc?

It is mostly just knowing the car.

I am so sorry I havent been back on- i moved house and just didnt get round to it!

It cost me £100 GBP to get it fixed by BMW- I was really annoyed as the cable only cost £7 and I could have changed it over myself!!
