What is the route of the belts when replacing them?: Which one goes on first?

The A/C belt goes on first and then the water pump/power steering pump/alternator belt. The route is obvious for the A/C. The water pump,alt,P/S belt, starting at the top pulley for the water pump, go under the deflection pulley then over the alt. then around the P/S pump then around the crankshaft and then to the idler pulley and then to the water pump and that is it.

I can describe the routing for you. Starting with the water pump pulley,off the top of that, then it goes under the deflection pulley, over the alternator, down to the power steering pump, along the bottom to the crankshaft pulley, around the tensioner pulley and to then back to the water pump.

I need the belt routing diagram for a 1997 528i with a tension pulley.

See if one of the diagrams i posted is what you have.

Is there anything else you need?
