1984 BMW 528 Low Power at high end

My 84 528e is idling well and performs fine at low speed (0-35 mph.) Accellerating up a hill or at highway speed is all of a sudden very sluggish. This does not seem to change if it is cold or warm. Any ideas on where to begin troubleshooting?
