I have just adjusted my valves on my BMW. The book said that the correct spec is .012, but the valves seem to be noisier than before they were adjusted and when I initially checked them the .012 feeler guage would not fit. Should I readjust to .010 which is the spec for the four cylinder engine? What is the correct spec for the 6 cylinder engine?

Both are right! VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENTS 1. Adjust valves in firing order (1-5-3-6-2-4), with piston of cylinder being adjusted at TDC of compression stroke. Use a feeler gauge to measure clearance between rocker arm eccentric and tip of valve. 2. To adjust valve clearance, loosen nut on rocker arm and insert a rod in eccentric hole. Rotate eccentric until proper clearance is obtained and tighten lock nut. VALVE ARRANGEMENT Right Side - All Exhaust. Left Side - All Intake.
