525i Transmission problem.

I have a 1990 Bmw 525i and i have a problem with the trans, it is late in selecting 4th gear, won't ever select until 70km/h.
I have given it a service.
Done a shogun reset.
And had a look for a trans speed sensor, which is what i thought it would be but this model of trans does not have one.

Any other suggestions anyone?

sounds like the road speed sensor. the ZF 4HP22 has a road speed sensor in the tail shaft housing. or something inside the shift body. doing a service to a high mileage box can sometimes be fatal
