2010 BMW 335 Vibration

I just started my lease on a BMW 335d. Drives wonderful until about 60 mph, then starts feeling vibration. Gets worse as speed increases. Can be felt in face and eyes! Reflection of my watch on roof visibly vibrates. Can be felt under my feey and through the seat. Caused headache! Seems to be worst when needs little pressure on gas pedal to maintain speed, i.e. drives on cruise control negotiating a slight upslope. Returned to seller`s shop. They test drived it, acknowledged the problem, said either wheel balance problem or the car was parked in one place for long and tires got deformed. Said to have replaced three tires and problem is gone. They did drive the car 100+ miles. Drived the care home (52+ miles). Vibration is the same except it now begins aroind 70-75 mph. Significant above 75 mph. E-mailed seller. Advice: keep driving it a few thousand miles and see if it gets better? What can the problem be? What should I do? Where should I go?

I have advised on cars still covered under warranty that the thing to do is to keep the pressure on, be relentless, do not give in to their suggestions to "drive the car and see what happens" If you paid for it, you should have it your way (like the Burger Kind Advertisements) and they need to know this. Take it and the paperwork to a lemon law legal outfit and see what they say. Then there is the BMW CCA ombudsman, are you a BMW car club member?

I am not a BMW Car Club Member. I haven`t have a chance to look into it. Would that have an advantage in this case? What may cause such noise? Today it was so bad at one point I was considering stopping, I felt something is gonna get damaged. Then it eased back.

Follow through with what I suggested and let the dealership have the car until it is fixed, once again, do not take no for an answer.

How is the progress with the car? Have you researched membership in the BMW car club yet? It has many positive points, not to mention the best car club magazine in the business, an ombudsman for dealings with the car, and great articles. The cause of your problem is something I could only guess at, and I would rather not guess with a new car, if you know what I mean.

The car has been in the dealer`s shop all day all night after we had another test drive with the foreman and he agreed that the vibration is still there. Today they called me. The replaced all four wheels and they said the ride is smooth, the vibration is gone. Hmmm. I`ll see tomorrow when I pick the cur up and drive it home.

Well, they replaced all four wheels and the vibration is actually a lot better now. There is still some grumbling and roughness around 80-90 mph (closed road, professional driver, don`t do this at home), but it feels like the general growling of the diesel but it is shaking the car. It also depends more on the torque. Just a little pressure on the gas pedal makes it appear. Right now I`m not sure if it`s normal or not. Is that usual for diesels to have more vibration than gas engines?

Yes it is. And the run flats are going to contribute as well. Question, did you test drive the car they delivered to you? or was there a demonstration first, and then another car was delivered to you. The question is for my own curiosity, morbid though it may be.

I did test drive it, but only in city traffic. My fault. I should have asked for a drive on the highway.
