The is a clicking or knocking sound coming from the engine. As the rpm increase the sound gets louder but it does not increase in speed.

Noises are difficult at best to diagnose from cyberspace. If it is coming from the engine and does not increase with the engines speed then it could be a tensioner. I would get a live person to listen to it.

I brought the cart to a bmw dealer. They said the noise sound like it is coming from the front of the engine. They want to try a oil flush first. It might be a vanos adjuster. Will that cause the noise? Or something in the timing chain and gears. Is there a timing chain tensioner rail that could be broke. Would a lifter cause the noise?

As i said, noises are difficult to determine from cyberspace. Have you considered doing some exploratory work to pull the top cover off and see if there is something there?

I did some troubleshooting. I found that when I push the clutch in the noise goes away. I guess it is a clutch or transmission problem. Any opinions. This is exactly why I do not go to the dealer.

If there is a clutch related noise it could be something in the clutch and as I had stated earlier, there is only so much I can do with the information provided. If there is a clutch related noise, then removal of the transmission and an inspection of the clutch and all it's components would be in order. Merry Christmas ♥
