hi there , thanks to a pair of car vandalising scum bags , I need to remove and replace the entire mirror mounting , my question is how do I get in to the fastenings in the door frame ?

You can access the mirror mounting bolts after the door panel has been removed. To remove the door panel first pry the "SRS" plastic plug out from the top corner and remove the screw under it, then the wood trim strip is pried off to expose a screw, and then the two screws that are under the arm rest. Then starting at the bottom, slide a silicone plastic pry bar in and "pop" the door panel loose. You will then be able to access the Torx screws that hold the mirror on.
