I drove through some high water pretty fast and the car ended up stalling in the water. The car started after about 10 minutes of trying. Now the engine is making a loud knocking noise and the "check engine soon" light is on. The tail pipe is smoking or steaming, and the engine is also. Not a whole lot but def. noticable. The care sat in water that was maybe 4 inches below the bottom of the driver door for about 20 minutes. Then was started and driven a couple miles home. Now it is making this knocking noise..

Does anyone know what might be wrong with it?

How do you fix something like this? I am not really good at fixing cars but would like to be educated before I take it to a mechanic so as I don't get ripped off. Thanks
