I am having some challenges with the timing on my car.
I have just replaced the valve stem oil seals and got hold of a second hand VANOS UNIT.
After three attempts at setting my car up and three loads of roaring into life turning over at 4500 rpm and then back firing and stopping.
I decided to take it too my local garage who informed me that they do these all the time and that when they checked the camshaft timing was wrong.
They set up the timing and it did the same thing to them. and when they checked the cam timing was now out again.
I left it with them and they now informed me that they got it going and it ran for ten to fifteen minutes sweat!! but then it gave a back fire and stopped. When they checked sure enough the cam timing is out again.
Have you got any ideas why this should be happening?
Kind regards
Pete
