vibration noise center console

BMW 325 mileage: 150,000. There is a vibrating noise coming from inside the center console. As I accelerate the noise gets faster. I've found that if I raise the emergency brake lever one click the noise stops. No vibration is felt in the lever its selt though. What could the noise be? Its driving me nuts.
