1995 BMW 325 i with 200,000 miles - recently relocated from LA to Nebraska - having problems with the door locks freezing when experiencing icey snowstorms. What can be done to prevent this short of moving back to California?

In the event of no heaters, you can try to spray some wd-40 into the locks as it displaces water. OR carry a lighter and heat the key before sticking it in. One last strategy is to use an empty toilet paper roll, place one end on the lock and blow into the other to heat it with your breath. Short of that, replace the lock.

wd40 has an automobile lock lubricant that will prevent freezing, just make sure to use it after every car wash.
