2006 BMW 325 Hot and Cold air

Sometimes hot air comes from the front defroster when the defroster is off. When I try to turn it off (unsuccessly) by turning on the A/C, the A/C works but hot air is on the drivers side and cold air on the passenger side. I drive with the hot air blowing. The next time I restart the car (couple of hours later), the drefoster and A/C works fine ? The 'hot air' issue occurs randomly. The BMW dealer could not find any problems during their search. Any ideas ?

Their search may not have been fruitful, and it can be difficult to diagnose if there is not any perceived problem. When the car presents with the symptom and it can be authenticated with corroborating test results and presently occurring faults, then the technician can go forward. What I'm saying is, if the tech does not see it, the tech is not inclined to fix it, BMW does not pay for their people to go on extended expeditions for faults that are not currently present, or cannot be duplicated. This is not intended as a defense of the corporate policy. Simply a harsh fact. Possibly some software related fix in there somewhere, but I am not well enough informed about the details at this time.

Thanks for your comments. I sometimes hear the whirling of small motors (or valves opening/closing) behind the dash (center) a couple of minutes after the engine has been turned off. To me, I think it's the resetting of controls of the a/c, defroster, heater unit ? Maybe it's the occurance or non-occurance of this 'reset' that is the problem ? Am I totally off base ?
