I have a 1995 BMW 325is that has a cooling problem. While driving on the freeway, it is fine. After driving around town a little bit, it overheats. I believe the cause to be the fan clutch. Given the miles on this car, it could certainly need replacing. Doesn't this sound like a typical symptom of a bad fan clutch? Also, I have a new fan clutch to install. The real question is, how do you get the old one off! I have the 32mm wrench needed. How do I keep the engine from turning while trying to loosen the fan clutch? It isn't reverse threads is it?

Thank you for any help!

I have not heard from the resident BMW expert yet. I was wondering when do you think I might hear from him? I have used this service a number of times and have never had to wait this long. I actually don't think I have ver waiting more than 30 minutes. I am not complaining, I am just anxious to get this project finished.

Please let me know when I can expect an answer concerning the fan clutch on my 1995 BMW 325is.

Thanks,

Larry Eller

Sorry I took so long to get here. The threads are left hand and I often use a few blows with a hammer at the end of the wrench to loosen the fan clutch, if no joy with that method there is a fan clutch tool set that has a 32mm open end wrench(which you already have) and a tool that will go over the bolt heads at the fan pulley and hold it so you can get the fan clutch loose. Avoid the water pump pulley itself as it is made from some sort of resin and can shatter.
