I have a 93 BMW 325i, with about 180k on it. It will not pass inspection because of a brake switch failure (on the built-in diagnostics), and I looked up this INFO, and found out that there is indeed a recall on this situation. If I take it to my local dealer, they will fix the recalls on this car for free, correct?[img:e754ef9cc3]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/267622_BMW_1.jpg[/img:e754ef9cc3]

You may have to pay a small fee with it being such an old car, but nothing like the cost of having repaired yourself ?

Recall Date
JUL 01, 1996
Model Affected
1993 BMW 325IS

Description
THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAN FAIL ALLOWING THE SWITCH TO REMAIN IN THE "BRAKE LIGHTS OFF" POSITION OR IN THE "BRAKE LIGHTS ON" POSITION.

Consequence
IF THIS HAPPENS, THE BRAKE LIGHTS EITHER WILL NOT OPERATE OR WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY ON, REGARDLESS OF BRAKE PEDAL POSITION. FOLLOWING DRIVERS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STOPPING, INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED SWITCH

If the dealer were to work on the car for free, it would require a letter from BMW stating the recall.
