Your car uses a hydraulic system to actuate the clutch. This consists of a master cylinder, a slave cylinder, and a tube connecting the two. If your clutch sudden stops working, then you most likely have a leak in the system. The clutch draws its fluid from the brake reservoir. Is there a warning light on for the brake system? If that is on, it would confirm that your car has lost it's brake/clutch fluid. If it's not on, it may still be leaking out but not registering an error light because the clutch pulls its fluid from the top of the reservoir. Check that first. If that's not the problem, then you may possibly have lost all of the clutch disk lining. That happened to me once. Unfortunately, I can't remember whether this allowed the clutch pedal to stay on the floor.
