2002 BMW 320 burns oil and smokes excessively

my bmw uses a lot of oil, seems to get to min with in a wk of filling, there are no leaks, also sometimes when car has been idle then i drive off there is excess smoke from the exhaust but seems to clear after a bout a mile.

Ok sorry to say this but the engine in your car is tired. It is time to probably either rebuild or replace the engine. I would do a compression test first off one dry test and one wet test. I really think you are going to find out that it is the engine.

Oil consumption is possibly due to a faulty pressure regulator or its associated plumbing. At the mileage reported the failure of the pressure regulator is quite common. Thanks for your answers, would that be the fuel pressure regulator? or is there an oil pressure regulator. would like to try this first before rebuilding the engine. thanks Dave

Dave, click on the link and see the part. It is not an oil or fuel regulator, it is a separator for oil vapor. It condenses the vapor back into oil and sends it back into the crankcase, and the leftover vapor is pulled into the intake manifold and consumed by the engine. Rebuilding the engine isn't needed, BMW motors are known for their robust engineering, at least internally, lol.
