1996 BMW 318 cooling system

Hello. I hope someone can help. My thermostat on my 1996 bmw 318i was bad. I decided to have a friend change it. After we changed it, the water pump was bad but I was told that might happen. I changed that. Then, a few days later, the I was driving the car and it worked fine but once I pulled over to grab some coffee, it overheated and the antifreeze poured out of the bottom of the car. After looking into it, I realized the resevoir of the radiator was leaking. I then changed the radiator but my new problem is that I can't get the electric fan to turn on.
I went to the bmw service dept and they told me I needed a new fan. I got that at 350 bucks but I still can't get it to turn on. It is supposed to turn on when the air condition is on or when the car gets hot. I even chaged the temp switch on the block of the engine because I was told that part goes bad a lot. The fan just won't turn on. I read somewhere that fuse number 48 which is a 40amp fuse controls the fan. Under the hood, in the fuse box, the fuse count only goes to 46. There must be another fuse box but WHERE?? I can't find the other fuse box? Even if I do find the other fuse box, what are the chances that it is the fuse? Am I missing something here? I've spent a lot of money on the car and it is just sitting idle now. I mean that I can't drive it. I don't know what to do at this point. Please help.
