Electrical problem
1995 BMW 318is 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

left side rear directional (amber) is on steady when driving at night. both directionals function normally for turning. got pulled over for this malfunction. have changed bulbs, but as i suspected, that's not the problem. pulled out the assembly but can't see anything out of the ordinary. is it a short, or a wiring problem? or even a relay problem? hope someone can figure it out, i don't need another warning.
thanks.

It is either the lamp control module or the turn signal switch. Send the last 7 of the VIN please.

The basic module that controls the turn signals is part #61-35-8-369-482 and is located in the passenger foot well area behind the glovebox. The turn signal unit shows several different part numbers. Before this gets too far, have the basics been checked? Has an aftermarket sound or alarm system been involved? Are you using the correct bulbs? When did this start? I just wonder because I dont want to have you spend money and time on something that is beyond your capabilities to diagnose and repair.

no sound or alarm system installed. using same bulb (12v21w single element) on both sides. on the left side the light is on steady when all lights are on and when signaling a left turn it still works ok; right side light is not on when all lights are on. i'm assuming that the right side is working correctly i.e. the light is only on when signalling a right turn. will my peake perhaps show a code for this situation?

sorry haven't replied. just back from vacation.
can't find the module, but same problem is now compounded with signals not working at all, together with right hazard flasher not working. i'm wondering if it's the turn/flasher switch.

It could be the switch, yes.
