Blown ignition fuse

Try pulling the gauge cluster out and disconnecting the connectors. Then replace the fuse and see what it does. I suspect that there is a short in the cluster somewhere (maybe on the gas gauge part of the circuit). I am going to do a little more digging, but this is where I think the problem will be.

Disconnect which connectors? Not a mechanic, but pick it up pretty quick. Any way can I get a picture of what I need to remove and disconnect? Thanks, brother

Makes sense because gas give moves erratically, up and down.

Sorry, the first lookup I did suggested that the gauges were on that fuse. They are not. Here is the fuse box diagram. Are you talking about fuse #10? The PCM, VCM, crankshaft position sensor, ICD module, and the four fuel injectors. If I had to spitball a guess, I would say the crankshaft position sensor is the most likely problem. Check its wiring to see if it has a bare spot or something like that causing an intermittent short circuit. It would be in the twelve volt lead most likely. I will keep digging.

The fuel gauges on these trucks are notoriously jumpy and inaccurate. I would be worried if mine was not jumping with every hill, turn, and hard stop that I do in mine.

Here is an image detailing where the crankshaft position sensor is. It is provided by GM and kind of a bad image, but it communicates the point. This is the front of the engine, closer to the passenger side of the truck.

Thanks a lot. I will try first thing in the morning. Funny that is on the passenger side. When I got bumps on passenger side only, and meter goes back and forth.

Could that positioning sensor blow the ignition fuse?

Yes, in theory. But I do not think I have ever heard of that happening. It is more likely in the wiring.

Heyman, you there? I found a wire that goes from the front of the starter up there front of the motor. Not sure where it goes but it was frayed something fierce and almost broke in two. I taped it up, but I think I broke it because it turns over now but will not start. What wire is that and would it keep it from starting?

I hope that is the problem, going to check tomorrow. At work tonight.

Yeah, that could definitely cause a no start situation. I am thinking it could be to the crankshaft sensor. You can take some pictures and post them here so I can try to ID it. But definitely go ahead and trace it down and replace as much of it as possible with the same gauge wire, and then hope for the best.

Sorry, I could not get back to you earlier. I was supposed to be off from work today so I could do my brakes and fix a few things on my work blazer. But anyways I bet replacing that wire will get you back on the road.

I think so as well. It was almost in two, and my fiance moved it and it broke. I am going to repair and hope it works. Does that work go to the fuse box? The other wire goes to the battery, I do not know where this one goes. Not it is broke and you can tell it has been arching over. That is what has been blowing the fuse huh?

Yeah, that would definitely cause the fuse to blow. If it is a hot wire and had a short that will blow a fuse in a heartbeat, as you have probably learned by now, lol.
