Blowing black smoke

Replaced intake gasket to repair water leak in distributor area, vehicle sat for about a year before I was able to finish it. Just got it back together, starts and runs but seems to be running rich as it is blowing black smoke. Has good power, added fresh fuel and injector cleaner. Hard to start sometimes, apply a little accelerator and seems to help it start.

We need to start with reviewing this material just to get us started. This is a guide that will cover black smoke:

Then we need to test the fuel pressure to find out if this is high or not. I suspect the fuel pressure will be ok but if it is hard to start at times then we may have weak pressure as well. That may not cause the black smoke but we need to start getting baselines to see what direction to go.

Also, if you have black smoke and low pressure then we may have an injector hanging open. So we will cross that bridge when we get there. So let me know what we find with this and go from there. Thanks
