When I start my vehicle to let it warm up the heater blows hot air and it blows it like it should on high, but when I drive down the highway for about twenty to thirty miles and go to turn the fan up, it barely pushes any air out. I can hear it blowing under the passenger dashboard, but there is barely any air coming out of the vents. It does not have a problem heating. It only happens when I am driving down the highway for a ways. I have cleaned the in cab filter but have not tried anything else. When I pull the filter out and turn the fan up it blows air out of the filter a lot good, but when I put it back together it still does not push any air out of the vents, does not work on floor, front vents, defrost, and also does not work on recirculate.

Hey JORDAN,

It sounds like you have a blend door actuator that is not working right. Here is a guide and diagram on what you should check and/or replace.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.

I was in the process of replacing the driver side blend door actuator gear on my vehicle listed above today, when the adjacent gear it aligns with, fell off and got lost. So now I’m looking to find the part name and number for that item so I can purchase and replace. Please see the attached photo for reference.
Please help!!!

Hello again.

Since you used your cell phone to take that picture is there any way you can magnify the screen shot by blowing it up by hand to get those part numbers? I looked on my repair guides but the gear is covered by the actuator and doesn't show a name or any numbers. I've attached a picture below and circled in red. Let me know if this looks like the plastic gear. Hope you might have found it or can blow up your photo. Keep us updated as soon as you can. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hello again.

You might have to buy a housing. There are 3 different versions so I will need the last 8 digits of your VIN number to find out. Get back to me and we'll go from there. Thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Installed new blend door actuator on passenger side. Still makes a banging sound. It seems that the gear is off. It there a way to align it?

Hello again.
I've tried finding this for you with not much luck. I was told there are only 2 items able to be purchased being the gear itself and the actuator. I've attached pictures below available for purchase from local Jeep dealers. Your best bet might to be to take your phone with that picture on it to your local Jeep dealer parts department and see what they can do for you. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Thank you for responding, it sounds like to me the Blend door. I did recheck the gear , there are no teeth missing.

Okay, it does sound like the actuator.

Can you feel it when you put your hand on it?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-blend-door-motor

The teeth do not have to be bad for it to tick. The gears can just jump.

yes I can feel it jumping. I can also see the gear jumping against the teeth on the door. I can move the door by hand so i know that is not stuck. when I installed it , it went on with know problem.

Replace the actuator. It is the actuator itself.

What brand are you using?

You could remove the cover and pack the gears with grease. That will stop the gears from jumping.

Does not matter as long as it lines up.

Then remove the HVAC fuse for 5 minutes. Then install it and turn the key to on and let the control module calibrate the actuators.

Good morning Roy, here is a update on my problem: I installed new actuator and now there is no banging noise at all, but only the drivers side has A/C. I can see the door closing (with re-circulation on) moving forward to stop outside air from coming in, and it is making a tight seal but still no air on pass side. Do you think I should reinstall without keeping door closed?

Yes. Give that a try and see if it takes care of your issue.

Do the calibration process again.

Can you hear the door try to move or move? Did you move the door manually and see if it blows cold air?

I attached the wiring diagram for you of the blend door motor.

Check for voltage at the actuator when you command cold and heat.

The wife got mad at me and took the Jeep to the dealership. It turns out the actuator was installed correct. All she needed was refrigerant. Now she has cold air both sides of car. Again thanks for the help.
