I want to block the air intake at the base of the windshield. Probably just put tape over the hokes. Will this damage the car in anyway?

It will not damage the car but it will effect the performance of your heating and air conditioning system. This air intake is where the passenger compartment gets it fresh air from so it is not a good idea.
