The indicator for engine oil light keeps blinking while the engine is hot and the car is idle despite there is adequate oil in the engine. The car vibrates whenever this happen

Hi:

That is indicating low oil pressure, regardless if it is full. Are there any noises from the engine such as a ticking or knocking sound when the light is on?

There is an oil pressure sensor that may be bad. If there is no noises from the engine, we have two choices. One is replace the sensor to see if it was bad or get a mechanical oil pressure gauge (most parts stores will lend / rent one to you) and check pressure. All you do is remove the electrical pressure sensor and screw in the mechanical and start the engine.

I attached a picture of the oil pressure sensor's location for you to see. Check to make sure there are no leaks by it. If you plan to replace it, it screws out.

Let me know what you find.

Can you tell me where the oil pressure sensor is on a 2.4l 4 Cyl Camry so I can remove and test/replace it.

The OPS is located on left rear of engine block. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

The oil light comes on only when the car is moving or I am accelerating, not when the car is idle. I just had the oil pressure switch replaced for the 3rd time in 3 years. What could the problem be?

If there seems to be a lot of sludge in cylinder head, you have a possible oil strainer clogging situation. Drain the engine oil and remove the lower oil pan. Check the strainer for clogging and clean if necessary.

Hi there,

The clicking noise will probably be a damaged main or rod end bearing, you can drop the sump to check for bearing damage, i would start here and report any findings, but i would first do a oil pressure test just to make sure that there is oil pressure in the system.

1996 Camry with 3.0L V-6 with 180,000 miles. Perfect condition; maintained well; never had any problems. Oil pressure light came on; plenty of oil. Immediately turned off engine. Restarted after cold; now light is off, but engine making grinding noise in top end. What might this cost to repair and is it worth it? I love the car, but do not want to pour a fortune into something worth very little.

Thanks.

The grinding noise could be a lot of things, cam bearings comes to mind.
But you really need to take the cam cover off to see any damage.
Anytime the oil light comes on you should stop the engine immediately, and you should verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

You can buy a used V6 at a reputable junkyard, or get a JDM engine off ebay for around $1000.00

But before you do anything take it to a mechanic to see what failed. If there is a bearing failure you are probably better off replacing the engine as mentioned above.
