blend door actuator diagnoses

Very simply I've been given a quote to repair/replace my blend door actuator; minimum labor cost to remove the dash, is $1,000.00. 6 hours minimum, per Pep Boys. I'm so tired driving in the summer with full blast heat. I can hear the door clicking trying to shift the hot to cold air flow. But it just blows scalding heat all year round. What do you think?

Hello,

Typically a blend door actuator will fail either the all the way to hot or all the way to cold position. Of course it would have been easier on you if it was stuck on the cold position given it is middle of summer.

The blend door actuator can be accessed by removing the glove box.
It is not terribly difficult, just time consuming. When you remove the glove box you will see the actuator on the top of the HVAC box.

Great, thanks. I've seen several youtube vids on removing the glove compartment and accessing it, that's why $1,000.00 seemed a bit high for what seemed a fairly straightforward diagnosis. Great diagrams, thanks for the insight!!!
