Hi, I’ve had the car a week bought from a dealer, it’s a 14L Kia Venga crdi turbo
Economic, 2011 year with 90,000 miles on the clock, it’s got a full-service history and was last serviced 2 weeks ago. I’ve just noticed when accelerating in first a little cloud of black smoke, it doesn’t do it in any other gears, just in first, does anyone know what this could be? I'm thinking of returning the car for a refund or if it’s an easy fix will stick with it?

Diesel engines do let out little buffs of black smoke, which is normal. do you have a check engine light on? This would indicate there is a problem. Here is a guide for gasoline engines that have black smoke which some problems do cross over:

Has the fuel filters been changed? I would try that first if no check engine light is on.

Hi Ken L,

Thank you for your reply, there’s no warning lights on, not sure if they changed the fuel filters when they did a service. I will call them and check. Do you think adding additives to the fuel could help?
Thank you.

Yes, I would try the fuel additive to help clear out any bad fuel. Let me know if the filters were done, that is a big problem on diesel engines.

Hi, the filters have been done, no warning lights on, so I'm going to try the addictive's and I hope this helps. Maybe it’s normal having the little blasts of smoke. Thanks for your advice.
