There were two choices to get into "Prodemand" I just guessed at yours being an "SE" (the SEL may be exactly the same as far as the belt) Just let me know (you have a SEL) I will look up the other model. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I posted a diagram of your belt routing and belt tensor.Your tensor is spring loaded no adjustment. All you do is what the instruction's i posted say take a wrench put it on the belt tensor pulley bolt and turn it clock wise to release the tension then remove the belt. Then when your done route the belt around the pulley's and get a wrench and turn the tensor pulley bolt clockwise to get the belt back on.

Hey I don't do a whole lot of car repairs, but I have just replaced my alternator to find that I can't budge the thing and get it to reduce the tension on the belt enough to get it back on the tensioner pully. I see that there is a bolt near the alternator going through a black bar that has a slot, and that this slot allows the screw to slide back and forth. I'm assuming tightening this bolt is how you lock in the tension when you move it back and forth. Anyhow, I loosened all the bolts relating to the alternator or brackets near it, and even with a pry-bar I still can't budge the alternator assembly to move that bolt up or down the slot. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone describe what direction (up-down-towards cab, etc...) I should be pushing the alternator to reduce the tension? Am I missing a screw somewhere that is holding this thing still? I feel like I've checked everything...

THANKS!!!

Hopefully it is a 2valve 3.0 Liter engine. If so here is a diagram of what pulleys are for what. The tensioner has a bolt head, use a wrench to get the spring loaded tensioner to swing away so that the belt can be installed

I am having a problem getting my drive belt reinstalled. I have a V6 3.0 Flex fuel engine. I have a Haynes manual and routed it like it said, but it is still loose. Both belts are the same size. The manual said there should be a diagram of the belt routing on the car, but I have yet to find it. I would take a hand sketched drawing at this point. lol

Thank you so much. It was actually the first diagram. The belt broke so I did not know how it went. A guy from my wife's work actually came out (he use to work for Ford) and fixed it fifteen minutes after my post here. Found out my A/C clutch is going bad and that is why the belt broke. Fun stuff. they want $550.00 to replace just the clutch. I can get the A/C compressor and clutch for $218.00 from Autozone or $188.00 from Advance. Cannot be to hard to replace. Just got to find a way to safely get rid of the R134A in the system. They will vacuum and charge it for $80.00.

Hey, I do appreciate your post. I am not really mechanically challenged. I have worked on more Fords than I would like to say. I have taken out too many transmissions and rebuilt more carburetors than I ever wanted too. Guess you could say I am a poor old-school backyard mechanic.

Thank you again

When they vacuum the system it does get rid of the r134a The other thing to think about is a junkyard compressor with a good clutch, they have just one 8mm screw holding the plate, then a snap ring holding the pulley, then you put just those on and you do not even open the system. I did this way on my Town Car in ten minutes. $50.00 at the bone yard!

I'm having my ford taurus 2002 mode having 105K miles, It started to make tickling sounds near the alternator and the idler pulley, I took it to a mechanic and they replaced idler pully and then they replaced the water pump, however the problem stays unresolved. it sounds like some bearings are off inside (not sure where it comes from), alternator works fine. Could you suggest something to check with?

I am surprised that they didn't fully diagnose the problem, rather than just simply replacing parts. What you should do is to remove your serpentine belt out. Then spin your pulleys one by one. Pulleys should not make any noise when spun. NOTE*** You won't be able to spin the crank pulley, unless you have superhuman strength. VIN U

check your oil it low.your intake\exaust valves are worn or just not oiled enough. you might have a problem with your oil pump not pumping enough oil to the top.try getting an oil change might help have them change the filter in the oil pan.this is what is wrong.so times i think out loud in this case write out loud. the only thing that will tick is intake\exaust valaes. dark oil some times means one of the fillters is bad hope i helped good luck.

when you replace the tendsioner the pulley normally comes on it. as long as you give correct engine size and vin which in your case is U the tensioner is what holds the belt tight so replace that. stick with goodyear, dayco or Gates belts. dont' buy any tensioner that is made in CHINA. I'm also sending blet routing so you can install it correctly. if you don't have the routing diagram

Thanks for quick reply and the routing diagram. So ... is Goodyear 4060855 the correct belt for my car? Sometime when it rain, I hear the constant screeching noise. So .... do I need to change the idle pulley ? or most likely the sound just came from bad (a bit torn) belt?

Locate your VIN number. Count from left to right, the 8th digit will be either "S" or "U". For example, if the first 10 numbers of your VIN are ABC123DEF4, the 8th digit will be "E". If it is "S"

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/55316_taurusvinsbelt_1.jpg

and if it is "U"
