My gauges (speedometer, tachometer, gas, oil, temperature and battery) and lights turned off. I found out it might be the body control module? Everything else works fine the radio, the heat/AC. Just wondering if it is a fuse or if it is actually the BCM? Tried switching with a Tahoe BCM, did the procedure and it almost worked so I switched it back. After driving for an hour it started working again.

BCM's are VIN number specific so others will not work unless programmed to your vehicle. if it works now then okay, but if not then it has to be scanned for codes to see what is wrong with BCM or it may be a connection problem.

So can I run a diagnostic test on the BCM? Or will it show up on the test? What kind of scanner would I need to use?

the connection problem may be a bent pin or just not making a connection to BCM you need a professional scanner to scan a body module but only dealers can reprogram them.
