Battery problems

We thought another car had battery problem so we used the CX-5 to give it a jump start. Fund out the car needed gas.. not a jump start. Four days later CX-5 battery cells dead. not charging. May have to replace battery. Asking if the two things are really related or could it be something else?

Hello,

Did you hook the battery jumper cables properly? Positive to positive and negative to negative? If so, then one had nothing to do with the other. When was the last time the electrolyte was checked in the batteries cells(If the battery was not a maintenance free battery)? A battery's cell has to be completely submerged in electrolyte (Non tap water/sulfuric acid solution) for the cell to take a full charge. Dry cells will short out internally, and render the battery useless as they won't be able to hold a full charge. Each cell in an automotive battery hold 2.1 Volts, so one bad cell will only allow the battery to go to 10.5 Volts at full charge, which is a dead battery. Please keep us informed as to how things progress.
