Batery going flat and not chargeing

Hi, i left the car for 2 days after a jorney of 200 miles and when i went to start it my batery was dead... I called AA recovery and they told me that the alternator is gone so i replace it with new but the problem is still there. I have been told that it might be the alternator fuse or a groung cable problem. I have no batery light on in the dash so i am wondering what the problem could be. The car is a santa fe from 2006 2.2 semiautomatic.
I have just been todayvto another mechanic that sais the battery is the problem... Is this car suposed to stay started when i disconect the batery? This mechanic is saing that is not normal for this car to stay on when the batery is disconected.

check battery for condition including load test. then see if it charges most places do for free

i have took the car to a mechanic today and he replaced the batery because he found that to be the problem...
The other thing i have now is ABS , TCS , Break light on dash and the radio is not turning on anymore...
i am not sure but i think is my fault, when i first wanted to charge the car i used jump cables and i got them wrong way on the car battery. any ideea what can be the problem and if that can be the cause ? this mechanic said that might be the ECU unit wich is about £800 he said... that is a lot of money for me to pay
and another reason for wich he thinks is the ecu is that when i changed the alternator i did not disconect the batery of the car ( the batery was flat anyway) .

Any ideea about the problem? and any ideea about the aproximative costs it might involve?

it may have been the battery just drive it for a few days then see if a pro can get any abs codes out of it. the radio may need to have a code put in it to work if you have amanual check that in front if not call Hyundai on their 800 number and they may be able to help otherwise the dealer will charge about $100 for this. you'll need your vin number.

I have just discused withvthe mechanic today and he said thatvthe new battery didn't fix the problem, it just went dead again today. So the car had new alternator and new battery and still have the problem with the batery dischargeing. He is saing that the man that changed the alternator did not disconect the battery and it might have caused the ABS ECU to get damadged but the battery was flat at the time of changeing... And the problem with the battery not chargeing was from before not from after changeing the alternator so i do not understand why he is sayng that changeing the alternator with battery on caused this problem and ABS, TCS and break lights to come on. The radio has no power in it at all, it does not come on...
Any more ideeas?

your mechanic should do a parasitic draw test see why it discharging battery. disconnecting alternator has nothing to do with replacing a battery. Have him check for a draw. He should know how to do it. I t may be a bad abs unit though causing the draw.
