Ball joints and axle

So i took my car to a recommended repair shop and they replaced the axle, the struts, the boots, the coil packs, the spark plugs, and all the filters. I returned the car by tow truck within 24 hours.
They told me it was loose struts. I took the car home and a week later it was making the same sound . A loud clonking sound and i thought the wheel was going to come off. I had a mechanic friend look at it and he was flabbergasted to see my ball joint was bad. how and why would they not have noticed this? I took it in originally to make sure it was safe for a long road trip. I am extremely upset should i be i mean 2200 is ridiculous to have to go through this.

In short, I agree that it seems ridiculous that they could do this work and not catch the ball joints. They were working all around it but in their defense if they didn't inspect them, they would not have known just by looking at them. However, they should have inspected them.

If it were me, I would ask the shop to do the work with no labor because that is what it would have been if they would have done it while doing the other work. They were there already so it was no extra work other than removing them. So now to have that work done, you would need to pay them or someone else to disassemble the front end again and replace them, when you just paid them.

Sorry this happened but it is not the first time I have heard of it.
