I have for a long time now had difficulty starting my vectra. I have bought a new battery, had the solenoid and starter motor checked and both are ok. I had my local Vauxhall dealer run an electronic analysis and this produced a faulty cam shaft sensor which I have since replaced. I was advised independently that the problem may lay with the gear selector mechanism but this would cost me £400 to replace, not a practical option. Another tip was the sensor Pt. 9114941 which I believe to be located on the gear box. I have purched this item at a cost of £43 but am unsure how to fit it. Can you give me any guidance please?

If an auto, it may well be the range switch on the transmission, this is the switch that allows you to start in park and neutral only, if faulty there is no option but to replace it, this switch can be adjusted slightly but it will have to be checked with a test light to see if power is switching correctly.

Hi MHPautos,
Many thanks for your reply.I have purchased a switch which is desbribed as a 'neutral' sensor switch at £43.50 and this seems to fit your description, BUT where is it situated in order that I can change it? Any help gratefully accepted. Eric

Hi mhpautos,
Sadly I am having no joy with the starting problem. My mechanic could not locate the unit that I bought so obviously it is the incorrect part! However he did locate a unit in the position that you suggested. This appears to be a sealed unit so, assuming that it is the offending part, can it be repaired or must it be replaced,if so what is the description of the unit? Perhaps you know the part number?Sorry to be such a pain but you are the only person to offer useful advice.
Incidently are you in Os?

It will be a sealed unit, it should be called the range switch or neutral start switch, yes i live in Aust, rural Vic in an old gold mining village.
