My car's oil pressure gauge is stuck at 3/4 and doesn't move but the warning light for the low oil pressure light is on and makes a whining noise while driving. should I try changing the oil pump or can I find out if it's the bearings to the crankshaft before I scrap it or get a new engine? And why is my oil pressure gauge on my dash not telling me it has no oil pressure even after I changed the oil pressure sensor?

Hi,

When the engine is running, do you hear any knocking or ticking from the engine? If there is no pressure, it would likely be making a lot of engine noise. Also, the absence of oil pressure wouldn't cause a whining noise, instead, you would hear a knocking or ticking.,

If it is loud enough to record the noise, record it and upload it for me to hear. Also, the oil switch itself may have failed. Under normal conditions, it is an easy thing to replace. However, on this engine, it requires the removal of the intake manifold.

Try to record what you are hearing so I can hear it. I should be able to tell if it lost oil pressure.

Let me know.

Yes, you could have a bad cluster and a clogged oil pump pick up. I would remove the oil pan to inspect the oil pump pickup, also you can try a manual oil pressure gauge which you can rent from the auto parts store to confirm the problem. It is inserted where the oil pressure sender goes. Here is how to remove the oil pan. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response to the problem so we can see what's going on.
