My ac compressor locked up and caused my belt to break. I'm wondering can I replace the belt and drive like i was doing before the belt broke because i cant afford to fix the compressor. or can i just bypass the compressor and add a shorter belt

if you replace the belt check first if it will spin on compressor if it does then disconnect the electrical on the compressor or it will break the new belt as well. you should replace tensioner at same time. it it doesn't spin on compressor then you need to go to auto parts to find something that will work, you may need a pulley as well for this.
