Backfire, rough running loud

When I started the car this morning it backfired, then became very loud and ran rough like it was not hitting on all four cylinders. I need to know if it is safe to drive or if I need it towed.

I t shold be ok to drive if it backfired it may have blown muffler or exhaust apart. then get it checked to see if there is a misfire.
