Back lights and Car Trunk Malfunctioning?

Good day. Whenever I push the button to open the trunk, the back lights turn on and the car trunk cannot open. Can you please tell me what cause this to happen?

Check the connections by the battery, make sure there is good ground. check make sure the vehicle distribution box see if there is any loose wires.

Use a static voltage check to make sure you are getting voltage to the trunk release when you hit the button. Let me know how what you find?
