I was putting it in drive or reverse I was not able to go?

Recently took my car to the shop because when I was putting it in drive or reverse, I wasn’t able to go. It was told it would be the transmission that something somehow welded together after fixing that the guy called to tell me now that he drove it the driver side axle is broken. Could that have been the problem the whole time? Or any opinions or did I fully need a new transmission?

Hi,

If the axle is broken, absolutely, the vehicle won't move. There are two axles, but the transmission applies power to the one with the least resistance. That would be the broken one.

Here is the interesting thing. For the transmission to be removed, the axles need to be removed first. It's a bit hard to believe that wouldn't have been identified. I attached two pics below showing the axle. The arrow points to the transmission. These need to be removed before the transmission can be removed.
