AWD disconnected

I purchased this car and the AWD has been disconnected. Will that harm the vehicle?

The Rendezvous was available as a front wheel or all wheel drive. If they simply removed the rear drive shaft it should be fine. I would try to determine why it was disabled, it might be easy to re-connect.
