Hi!

I have been looking for the pinout for my AVN, but I am unable to find a match. I am wondering if anyone has any information on this AVN pinout.

The car is 2016, has 360-degree cameras and Harman speakers. I hope someone has info about that AVN.

Hi,

The best I may be able to do is provide the wiring schematic. I'm not sure if the pinout is going to be listed for this.

However, I need more information based on the vehicle. Even though I see the model/part number, I need to confirm which model it came from.

If you look below, I attached the options I am seeing. Let me know which matches what you have.

Take care,

Joe

These are the OE connectors; I think yours is the second two images tagged as head unit 4.0 as that one used the amp and navigation. What is the issue you are having?

The images that Steve sent are perfect, thank you. I am trying to replace the current AVN with the 2018 Optima AVN to get Carplay.

If you could pull up a pinout for that one also, it would be perfect, although I found a pinout for that, it would be great to check if it is correct.

They have a few for the 18 depending on which vehicle it came from; they used the same connections as the 16 on the entry level trims but these look to match the connections you have, and these are the up-level units. I would probably make an adapter harness if possible before you do any cutting. 16 and up can use some strange protocols for the audio systems depending on what else is run through the system due to the integration of all the computer data. Wouldn't you want to get it all installed and discover that tuning the stations because the headlights to flash or touching the nav button causes the windows to roll down! LOL

Nice, thanks again! I am not going to do any cutting to the OEM wiring. I ordered female and male plugs and I will terminate wires with spade terminals, so I can swap them and test on the go. Will see if the AVN swap goes well, definitely going to be interesting.

I will! But I have one more question, I see that the newer AVN that I have is missing B-CAN and C-CAN bus connections. Do you know what kind of messages AVN requests from these buses and what they are used for?

Those are usually used for things like navigation and anti-theft as well as memory functions and things like chimes and warning signals. I see them in the display connector so it's possible they use that as a pass through to the later head unit. Hard to say without having the internal schematics of the units. It's one of the things that makes installing stereo gear into newer vehicles "interesting". For instance, GM used the stereo for the seat and mirror memory storage as well as the chimes and as part of the controls to program other options. To install another system, you have to mount the factory system someplace else (in the trunk or under the seat are common) to retain those functions as connecting aftermarket units to the CAN would brick the vehicle!

I pulled out the AVN fuse to see what kind of functionality is lost, but I did not discover anything that was lost. Auto parking, memory seats, blind-spot detection and auto lane assist all worked fine. Even chimes did not stop working, it seems like Optima has separate speakers for that, probably something to do with EU safety regulations.

I wonder if these CAN buses are used in other regions than the EU or if they are used with KIA connect, don't Know, it is my best bet. I will swap AVNs and see what happens, will update in a couple of weeks.

It could be different, or it may be that Kia has gotten a bit smarter than the others and doesn't put everything in one part for the controls. I'm glad not everyone thinks the ideal solution is making the entire dash out of an iPad! Just think how much fun some of these modern vehicles will be when the cutting-edge technology they use starts to fail. It's hard getting something like a starter motor rebuilt, getting that stuff repaired in 10 years is going to be real fun.
