I have Sport ES model. It shifts really hard going into reverse and it seems to be stuck in second gear.

Hello, and thanks for visiting us!

Let me start by asking if your check engine light is on and if so, are you able to pull any codes off the vehicle?

Thanks for that, since I cannot be there in person I am at a bit of a disadvantage. Could you also answer a few more questions just so I get a clearer picture?

-Can you also verify that the transmission fluid is full and what color it is?
-When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed?
-Is this a problem that just happened out of the blue or did it get worse over time?
-When you shift into reverse, does it hesitate for a length of time and then slams into gear harshly? Or does it slam in immediately?
-When you shift into drive, does it hesitate and then finally go into gear?
-In forward gear, when you accelerate, you said that it stays in second gear, if you shift the gear selector manually into any of the other gears will it respond?

My thinking is that we should eliminate all the simple stuff before we get into the more serious things.

If all checks out good with the transmission fluid, then we need to start thinking about the transmission controls. Since you are not getting any trouble codes, whatever is happening is not triggering any diagnostic codes which is curious to say the least.

Let me know about the fluid and we can go from there.
