Radio has power. AM/FM no sound comes out, like it’s on mute. Satellite, streaming/Bluetooth, phone calls—has sound but cuts out for approximately 1 second every 3-4 seconds.

Hello,

It sounds like the radio amplifier is going out.

Here is the radio wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works Check out the diagrams (below). Please run this test and get back to us.

If the fuse was blown, wouldn’t the radio not get power?

Hi,

Have you checked the fuses as recommended above? If you find they are both good, we will need to get into the wiring at the integrated power module. However, if the radio isn't turning on and off or glitching on and off when this happens, chances are the radio is going bad.

Ken attached the entire wiring schematic above, so you can refer to that. However, I need you to pay attention if there is anything noticeable on the radio that could indicate a power issue such as a flicker in the backlight.

I want you to check one more thing. Everything related to the system has a common ground. If you look at the pic below, I circled the ground and it indicates location.

Check that to make sure nothing is loose, corroded, or damaged in any way.

Let us know.

Take care,

Joe

In my Avenger the am radio doesn't work and my volume knob only turns down, won't do anything when I turn it up but shows a 0 when turning down.

Hi Colt,

That doesn't sound like a wiring issue. Instead, it sounds like an internal fault within the radio. There are printed circuit boards (PCB) that over time, the solder joints crack and lose connection. If I had to guess, something like that has happened.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger. My radio randomly started turning off and on. The radio itself is on, the lights are on and working as well as the buttons and volume, however one second the sound is there and the next there is nothing. Some days it works and some days it doesn't. Neither fuse are blown and both were replaced. What could this be? Okay.

Hi,

If the radio stays on but you lose sound, the first thing I would check is the connector on the amp.

If I recall, it is on the passenger side behind the kick panel.

If you look at pic 1 below, it shows the amp. Pic 2 is the kick panel on the left side. The right side will be similar.

Check the connector for corrosion, make sure it's tight, and confirm there is no damage to the wiring.

Let me know.

Have you checked the connectors at the amp? Also, does the radio turn on normally?

Let me know.
