2000 Audi S4 Question Can't switch to 1st and 2nd gear

Common problem. Once the first - second gear collar and syncros get burred or chipped (damaged), transmission will no longer shift into first or second. Time for an overhaul. They sell a kit with instructions for around $1200. This would include the upgraded collar. I have just replaced the transmission with a good used unit for less than the rebuild. I don't expect any future problems unless I abuse the transmission, but an upgraded collar would be nice.
