I have this audi 100 with 98k miles on it!!!!! I have tried 3 brand new alternators!!! Every time i put a new one on the car, it will show normal voltage, but the power drains away from the car!!! So i go get the alternators tested & they are bad!!!! The latest alternator i received, i had tested before i put it on the car, and the results showed that it was a good alternator until we put it on the car & it failed!!!! So if anyone could help me out here i sure would appreciate it!!!!

Hi there,

When you say it has gone bad, do you know where the fault lies, if each alternator is failing in the same way, there will be a clue as to where to start investigating. basic things to have checked All power &earth connections clean and tight, Check that the power wire into the alternator (the large one) is not frayed, showing signs of heat, or the insulation is not rubbed through, your auto electrician can check these things quickly. It sounds like a hot wire (one carrying current) to the alternator or regulator is earthing out and as it will not have fuse protection the alternator is being damaged. Get your electrician to check these item any you may find the fault.
