1998 Audi A6 cruise control in/op

I also have a 1998 A6 and the cruise control is not working. I know where the c/c mod. is, but i can't seem to find any diagnostic info. I have a Bently repair manual, but it doesn't have much on diagnostics. I have a Snap-on Solas pro but I don't see any thing on c/c. Is there a way to diagnose without parts replacing?

First check to see if your brake lights are working properly. Also, is the cruise control light indicator coming on at all when you try to activate CC?
