mine seems to be fried and in need of replacement. the gear indicator on the dash used to light up an signal which gear it wsa in. then the switch woiuld slip and it would indicate the tranny being in ALL gears at once though only shifting in park, reverse, nuetral and drive, except when in drive it will only recognize being in first gear or low. however now the gear indicator is completely dark adn doesnt shift from out of first gear?drive. how involved is the replacement? know anywhere where i can find a used or cheap replacement? could there be another problem with the transmission?

Your problem is not in your transmission but in your Transmission Computer. You can reset the computer by first replacing the fuse number 13 it is a 15 amp fuse, it is probily burnt out. next you need to disconect your battery for about a minute than reconnect your car should be fine. This problem is caused my the multi switch located on the side of the trans getting stuck. eventually you should change it, if this the first time you got a few years before you have to worry. Don't forget to get your radio code before attempting this repair! Good Luck
