2002 Audi A4 Oil question

Yes it is true it does need to be checked and added to after a service because when you change the oil filter most people just put it on empty then the car fills it up upon start so you will be down about a half quart to as much as 1 quart, However it will still register on the dip stick even after the change it will just be toward the low line on the stick. Some places dont even check the level when they change the oil they just look up what the computer tells them it will hold and fill it to there and call it good. as an example I own a Lexus S.U.V. that calls for 5.5 quarts from the factory, It actually takes 7.0 quarts to get it full. So when my Quick change place pumps in 5.5 quarts and the filter holds 1 quart i am only half full of oil and it barely registers on the stick. The only way to check the service is by the color of the oil. Audis tend to darken oil fast so if it is clean then it probably was done recently. Good Luck.
