2001 Audi A4 oil light; need repairs?

I just bought a 2001 Audi a4 1.8t quattro with only 65k miles on it, and on the way home the oil light went on so when i got home i put about 3/4 of the oil container in, and it was fine. The next day I was driving to work and it went on again, but I was on the highway and so i drove for about 5 mins because i was trying to get to autozone for some oil, but then it was making a weird kicking sound after i put the oil in, so I brought it to a local shop and they told me that there was an internal problem and that there was no oil pressure.

My question to you is, do you think there is a lot of damage done, to the point where it needs a completely new engine?

i would not say enough damage has been done to replace the whole motor because if oil pressure is your problem then you need a new oil pump and thats cheaper to replace than replacing a whole engine

Your reply is greatly aprecciated and yes very helpful. If there is damage to the engine what do you think is the minimum and maximum damage.

the minimum damage would be just replacing the oil pump the maximum damage would be if where there was no oil pressure and the internal moving parts of the motor have been damaged in any way

Do you think you can be specific as to what might be damaged and maybe a price range?

inside a motor there are alot of moving parts the only way to tell if they were damaged would be to tear the whole motor apart and check all parts like the pistons crankshaft rods lifters camshaft etc. so what i would do if first replace the oil pump and if that fixes the problem thats good but if you replace it and theres still problems then this could become more trouble than its worth. If it were me start with the oil pump.With cars you always start with the small problems and work your way up ;)
