I have a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8 and I have run into an issue with the tail lights and signal lights.

The signals work intermitently, often times they have to be done just by manually moving the control. I understand there is a relay problem with this model car related to that.

Recently the signal light will come on in the rear - but doesn't blink - without the signal being engaged. It only seems to happen on one side (the driver's side), but I'm tired of being pulled over for a missing taillight, as that is what it looks like. Its also an intermittent happening. Could this problem be related to that signal relay issue?

Removal & Installation (A4) Remove horn pad and steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD . Remove telescopic lever. See Fig. 4 . Loosen set screw for tilt wheel lever. Remove upper shroud from steering column. Disconnect electrical connectors from combination switch. Insert a 4-mm Allen wrench through hole in bottom of lower shroud, and loosen combination switch clamp screw. Remove combination switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
